"Car Alarm Heart"
the type by sarah kay
This poem - written and read by the author in 2013 - continues to carry resonance in my life as I endeavor to establish my identity as a woman and as a person not a question or an answer.
The themes of identity, emotion, devastation, deconstruction and reconstruction that Sarah Key explores through poetry, Picasso explores through painting. Facing Weeping Woman (1937) I am confronted with the same raw and aching human emotion that I experience while listening to Sarah Kay.
There is plenty more to say here, but I'd rather stay silent and invite you instead to experience emotions and to piece together fragments of your identity on your own.
